Dr. Tavares T. Hunter is a seasoned educator and transformational leader with over 20 years of experience guiding students to academic, athletic, and personal success. From K–12 classrooms to senior roles in higher education, he has championed student retention, equity, and holistic support through innovative programs and strategic leadership.

A proud North Carolina native, Dr. Hunter holds a Ph.D. in Education (P–20 Policy, Leadership & Management) and has led award-winning initiatives in academic support, student-athlete success, and diversity engagement. He is the founding advisor of the Alpha Epsilon Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., at Methodist University, which boasts an 100% graduation and retention rate.

Now serving as a higher education consultant, Dr. Hunter empowers institutions to elevate student outcomes and build inclusive, data-informed strategies for long-term success.

Cannie Hunter, MS

Cannie Hunter is a creative educator, communication specialist, and student success advocate with extensive experience in teaching, media design, and academic engagement. She currently serves as a Communication Instructor at Fayetteville Technical Community College, where she teaches Interpersonal Communication, Public Speaking, Intercultural Communication and foundational communication courses across multiple campuses—including the Bragg Technical Education Center, where she proudly supports military-affiliated students.

With a background in music, branding, and graphic design, Cannie brings innovation and warmth to every classroom and project. She holds a Master’s in Communication and is the editor and designer of FTCC’s Arts & Humanities Division Newsletter. Known for her fun-loving personality and passion for student growth, she creates vibrant learning spaces where creativity meets purpose.

Sonny Kelly, Ph.D.

Dr. Sonny Kelly is a professional performer, storyteller, motivator, speaker, veteran, and scholar. Currently a full-time instructor of Communication (Public Speaking, Interpersonal/Intercultural Communication) at Fayetteville Technical Community College, he teaches Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication, Public Speaking, and College Transfer Success. Dr. Kelly holds a PhD in Communication and Performance Studies from UNC Chapel Hill, MA degree from St. Mary’s University (Communication Studies) and a BA degree from Stanford University (International Relations).  Dr. Kelly has performed across the nation as a storyteller, actor, motivator, lecturer, and trainer for over two decades.  He is the founder and CEO of Legacy Heirs Productions, Inc. He and his colleagues specialize in creating, developing, and sharing, inspirational and motivational performances and art He aims to educate, engage, and empower diverse audiences across the globe!
